Journal: Module 7

Goals:

  • re-work my information architecture
  • sketch navigation ideas and find examples
  • begin building functional prototype using Drupal

Issues covered/Response from advisor:

  • developing locally, using CodeKit and Drupal doesn’t work, had to switch from using SASS/LESS to CSS
  • needed to add more complexity to my information architecture to show other ways of searching and connections between pages

Goals for next week:

  • figure out how to use Taxonomies in Drupal and get my search working
  • modify my theme further to match my brand colors
  • design a logo for my fictional natural grocery store
  • after feedback on my navigation sketches, improve upon them

Journal: Module 6

Goals:

  • conduct user testing of my Navigation Prototype
  • refine my information architecture
  • evaluate how jQuery will be used in my project

Issues covered/Response from advisor:

  • information architecture needs to include more connections, like to the store map
  • need to make my search function “smarter”
  • need to read Information Anxiety 2 by Richard Saul Wurman & check out Mobile Usability by Nielsen & Budiu

Goals for next week:

  • evaluate user testing results from click test
  • re-work my information architecture
  • test custom search module for Drupal

Journal: Module 5

Goals:

  • finish Drupal navigation prototype and add product page
  • update information architecture
  • mind maps, user flows
  • re-visit competitive analysis
  • fake store name is Natural Market

Issues covered/Response from advisor:

  • user flows need to be more clear about the main page or search page
  • add another user flow for sharing out product search results
  • research more about how to implement “full text search”

Goals for next week:

  • add new user flow and update others
  • create fake store layout
  • implement any feedback for my information architecture

Journal: Module 4

Goals:

  • complete my content inventory
  • re-work my information architecture
  • get permission to use Whole Foods as an example store
  • begin building a test prototype using Drupal to see if I want to use it as my CMS

Issues covered/Response from advisor:

  • the department doesn’t allow us to use real brands, could be an issue with using Whole Foods, was recommended to use a fictional store based on a Whole Foods market
  • example store needs to have a realistically complicated floor plan
  • learned a lot about Drupal and worked through some issues on installing a sub-theme

Goals for next week:

  • come up with my fake example store and create a mock floor layout
  • continue to build on my Drupal navigation prototype
  • re-visit user personas, scenarios and competitive analysis
