Logo Sheet

For my final round of the redesign process, I wanted to create a more finished look for my logotype and make it a little more unique to my application/project. I bulked up my base font Rockwell by adding a rounded stroke in the same color as the type, to give it more visual weight and soften the sharp edges of the font. Then to add more visual interest, I added a textured shadow print of the logotype, recalling the printing done on paper bags at many grocery stores. I re-worked my color scheme a bit more too, the greens are all shades/tints of each other and I warmed up the purple accent so it complements the green for more contrast. I may still revisit the color scheme later this semester as I build more prototypes but this is a step in a better direction overall.

Goals:

  • complete mock interview for a User Interface designer position and define my salary goals and hourly freelance wage
  • finalize my moodboards, make sure to include more images related to products and grocery stores
  • take my logo sketches from last week, give them more fidelity using Illustrator to get them ready for another round of critiques
  • continue to work on my mobile prototype, set up the site structure and create a jQuery mobile theme

Issues covered/Response from advisor:

  • after much research, decided that using jQuery Mobile then using PhoneGap to build my prototype was the best decision and use of my skills
  • I am more comfortable giving a presentation to a live (virtual) audience than into a vacuum

Goals for next week:

  • make corrections and modifications to my logos and then decide on final logotype design after feedback from this week
  • continue to work on my prototype, modifying the CSS/SASS to get the basic layout for the main search page
  • re-explore teaching as another career option after completing my masters, this time at the college level

Journal

Goals:

  • re-visit my logo and combine it into a logotype, which better suits my project type and goals
  • identify my core competencies and strengths for job interviews
  • create a basic PhoneGap sample app, is PhoneGap the right solution for my project?

Issues covered/Response from advisor:

  • learn how to articulate my weaknesses in a positive light, how I turned them into a learning experience?
  • my working environment is important to me and I need to research companies that fit those goals, work from home is a very real possibility

Goals for next week:

  • decide on final logo designs after feedback
  • re-fine moodboards based on instructor feedback
  • begin building new web prototype using chosen solution, jQuery/PhoneGap/AngularJS

Journal

Goals:

  • turn in rough of new moodboards, both utility and visual design
  • define and then research the type of company I would like to work for in the future
  • evaluate whether or not my project name needs changing

Issues covered/Response from advisor:

  • include more of my skills learned and be specific with past accomplishments on my résumé, make the font more standard
  • my education/teaching background is an advantage when focusing on EdTech companies

Goals for next week:

  • re-visit my logo from the beginning, sketch out some new ideas and concepts, and evaluate if it is still the best option for my project
  • re-fine moodboards based on instructor feedback
