Feedback from Midpoint Review

Midpoint Results

From this feedback, I have decided what direction I am going with my Thesis project, Gather. I am going to go the Mobile Web Application route, since I want my app to be accessed from any device. Therefore I would assume that I would take DS: Responsive Web over DS: Scripting for Mobile.

Also, I am going to be focusing on the search aspect of my project. I have been researching how to create my own Point of Sale System and I have concluded that it is a bit over my head at this point. I am not a Computer Science major and my knowledge of code isn’t there yet. Like the panel mentioned, I can see myself getting lost in the POS part and not being able to concentrate on the design of the application. Since I am removing the POS portion of the project, I am going to be able to broaden my design, make it responsive and having it fit all sizes of devices. Let me know if you think I am heading in the right direction and if I reined in the scale enough.

Market Point Of Sale

This semester, we really got the push to begin working on our thesis projects. I narrowed it down to two viable options. The first one was a tablet based POS system for grocery stores that was actually easy and fun to use. After being a cashier for over 8 years, I have used some horrible systems. This was the first idea that came to my head but the second idea related to my past teaching career. Basically, my entire 1st semester of Beginning Drawing and Painting in a tablet application.

When presenting these two ideas to my instructor, he felt that the direction I should go in would be the one where I would have the most opportunity to grow. Because my degree is in Art Education, I wanted to get some distance away from teaching. I am a bit afraid of being pigeon-holed or stuck in one area, I wanted to expand what I am capable of doing. I don’t have to prove to anyone I can teach Art, I have a valid single subject credential, experience, and a degree to back that up. I DO have to prove that I can create beyond that sphere.

Here is just a preview of what I have created so far for this Point of Sale Application. I am not sold on the name and style but this will give you a good idea of where I am heading.
